As the founder and main searcher I have been patent searching for over 20 years.  For most of that time I performed searching at the USPTO public search room.  I started that journey on the old school way of researching subclasses, then using carts, going to the stacks, grabbing the "shoes", then searching through the paper patents.  That experience lead to learning to search in a very thorough way.  

 

These days everything is done by computer based searching.  To perform our comprehensive search strategies we now use a combination of CPC subclass searching, text searching, and backward and forward searching.
